A bid by fed-up residents and councillors to win back local control of gambling laws has passed a major hurdle. A panel of Lewisham citizens gave the idea the thumbs up on Thursday last week and is passing the brainwave up to government. Now campaigners hope the government will implement the proposal, which would change the law to restore local people's power over betting shop applications.
