Brockley Councillor John Coughlin of Lewisham Green Party, the only councillor who is not a Labour Party councillor on Lewisham Council, has delivered a response to the Council's 2017 Budget.

Lewisham Green Party has long supported the right of Millwall Football Club to occupy their historic ground in the borough and we oppose attempts by Lewisham Council to force a Compulsory Purchase Order on the Club that threatens this right. Lewisham Green Party intends to mount a strongly critical presence at the Council's meeting to approve these plans on Wednesday, and we support Millwall FC's fight against the Compulsory Purchase Order.

Jonathan Bartley, co-Leader of the Green Party, says Lewisham Council must tackle “excessive executive pay” if it truly believes cutbacks in spending are necessary. Bartley was speaking after meeting residents in Brockley along with Clare Phipps, the Green candidate in the area’s upcoming by-election. The council’s budget for 2017 will start being debated soon but last year’s report shows that the borough spent £2.5m on executive salaries whilst taking out £100m from public spending.
